Hey Jaime! 1st, the pic of Cheeks grinning HUGE under your profile info is ADORABLE! 2nd, to answer your question: Little Monster is in the aquatics program at our local Y and for his age group it does a combination course of Safe Start and Beginner Skills. He has been doing them since he was 5 months old and we usually do every other 7 week course so that he does not get burned out on it, but he is also consistently learning. The classes last 40 minutes and we meet once a week. They started him off doing the safe start stuff and he learned how to right himself in the water and reach for the edge and hold on for at least a minute and how to hold his breath. After he got those things down (which took about two 7 week courses) then he moved on to learning the swimming skills part, but what I like about his class is they are CONSTANTLY doing refreshers of the Safe Start stuff to keep the little ones in practice on how to help themselves if they are ever in danger....they even put a blow up boat in the pool with a kid in it (in a life vest of course) to teach them how to be safe and still in a boat or on a raft. The skills things they do through games and songs and that seems to be a hit with all the kids, they are learning swimming movements and skills (kicking, reaching and pulling, floating, etc.) but in a fun way! If you have any other questions just let me know!
